*edited to add:*
They did say that "unlike everything else on this list, ROTK opened a full month after online voting began. Anticipating that this might affect results, and also hoping to keep these results separate from those of the 2004 Empire Awards, the qualification dates were tweaked to make ROTK ineligible for this poll. Despite all this, so many thousands voted for the movie that we felt it would be unfair not to count those votes. Needless to say, if ROTK had opened earlier/been considered eligible by everyone, it would have been placed even higher in this poll, perhaps significantly so. You'll have to wait until the next 100 Greatest poll to discover how history ultimately ranks the last part of the Rings trilogy."
*edited again to say:*
ROTK is on course to become the 2nd billion dollar movie in history, along with Titanic. Since it's release 4 weeks ago, it's taken $312.3 million in the US and ?48.1 million in the UK. It's global take in one month is approx $750 million so gawd knows what the final figure will be!
